From merchant estates to modernism
- 19th centuryThe area was home to merchants' estates and small workshops. Novoslobodskaya was known for artisans, shops and tenement buildings
- The early 20th centuryAfter the revolution, the buildings were converted into communal apartments and administrative offices. The street gradually acquired an industrial appearance
- 1960-80iesA typical Soviet-era building of strict geometry, functionality and minimal decoration was erected on the site of the future Hotel. It housed offices and warehouses, and represented an utilitarian approach to urban development
